Solar and Battery Package Sydney: What’s Actually Included and What to Check

What a solar and battery package in Sydney typically includes, what varies between quotes, and the questions worth asking before you commit.

If you’re searching “solar and battery package Sydney,” you’ve probably already had at least one quote land in your inbox — and noticed that “package” can mean very different things depending on who’s selling it. Some packages are genuinely bundled and priced transparently. Others are a panel brand and a battery brand thrown together with a headline number that doesn’t hold up once you read the fine print. Here’s what actually makes up a solar and battery package, and what to look at before you sign anything.

What a package usually includes

A standard solar and battery package covers four main components: the solar panels, the inverter (which may be a hybrid inverter designed to work with a battery, or a separate solar inverter plus a stand-alone battery inverter), the battery itself, and installation labour including grid connection paperwork with your network distributor. Some packages also include monitoring hardware or an app, and a maintenance or workmanship warranty period separate from the manufacturer warranties on the equipment.

The two batteries we install most often at Superb Solar are the Sigenergy SigenStor and the GoodWe ESA — both established products with their own strengths depending on your home’s setup, existing solar (if any), and how you use energy day to day. A proper package quote should specify exactly which brand and model of panel, inverter and battery you’re getting, not just “premium panels” and “a battery.”

Why “package” pricing varies so much

The biggest driver of price difference between quotes isn’t usually the installer’s margin — it’s what’s actually inside the box. System size (in kW of panels and kWh of battery capacity), panel and battery brand and tier, whether the inverter is hybrid or the battery needs a separate inverter, and the complexity of your roof (tile vs tin, single vs multi-storey, shading) all move the number significantly. Two “solar and battery packages” quoted at very different prices might not be comparable products at all.

This is also where Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs) come in — the certificates generated by an eligible installation, which a registered installer sells on your behalf and deducts from the upfront price. The STC value depends on system size, location and the certificate market at the time, so it should appear as a clearly itemised deduction on your quote, not folded invisibly into a discount that’s hard to trace back.

What we won’t do: quote a savings figure before we’ve seen your bills

A lot of solar and battery marketing leads with a bill-savings promise — “save $X a year” — before anyone has looked at your actual usage, roof orientation or electricity plan. We don’t do that. Every household’s consumption pattern is different, and a specific savings figure quoted upfront is a sales estimate dressed up as a guarantee. What we will do is walk you through your usage data and show you how a system of a given size is likely to perform, so you can make the call with real information rather than a marketing number.

Battery placement matters as much as battery choice

If your package includes a battery, ask where it’s going and how that placement satisfies AS/NZS 5139, the Australian standard covering battery installation clearances — distance from doors and windows, ventilation, and separation from combustible surfaces. This isn’t a minor detail; it’s been tightened specifically in response to fire-risk incidents from poorly sited batteries, and a competent installer should be able to explain your specific placement without being pushed on it.

Questions worth asking before you accept a package quote

Ask exactly which panel, inverter and battery brand and model are included, and whether the inverter is hybrid or the battery needs its own. Ask whether the STC value has already been deducted from the price shown, and ask to see it itemised separately. Ask how the battery placement will meet AS/NZS 5139 on your specific property. And ask what warranty applies to each component — panels, inverter, battery and installation labour are usually covered by separate warranty terms, sometimes from different manufacturers.
