Choosing a Solar Installer in Parramatta: What to Check Before You Sign

Parramatta sits in one of Sydney’s hotter, more built-up pockets — plenty of north-facing rooftops on freestanding homes, but also a lot of townhouses, duplexes and apartments where roof space, shading from neighbouring buildings, and strata rules change the calculation. If you’re comparing solar installers in the area, here’s what actually matters before you commit.

Roof orientation and shading matter more in Western Sydney

Parramatta’s housing mix means two very different starting points. On a standalone house with a clear north or north-west facing roof, you’re generally looking at strong solar generation most of the year — Western Sydney gets more hot, clear days through summer than the coastal suburbs, which is good for generation but also means panels and inverters need to handle sustained heat well. On the flip side, a lot of Parramatta’s newer medium-density housing has smaller roof footprints, shared walls, and overshadowing from adjacent two- and three-storey buildings, which can materially cut what a system actually produces compared to a theoretical north-facing install. A competent installer should do an actual shading assessment for your specific roof, not just quote off a satellite image.

Strata and council considerations

If you’re in a townhouse or unit with a body corporate, solar (and increasingly batteries) usually needs strata approval before installation, even if the panels only sit over your own lot. Ask your installer whether they’ve handled strata-approved installs in the area before, and get the approval sorted before any contract deposit is non-refundable. For standalone homes, most straightforward rooftop solar installs don’t need development approval, but it’s worth checking if your property is heritage-listed or in a conservation area, which does occasionally change what’s allowed on street-facing roof planes.

Grid connection and your distributor

Parramatta falls within Endeavour Energy’s network area. Distributors like Endeavour set export limits and inverter requirements for new solar and battery connections, and those rules occasionally change. A proper installer will check your specific export limit and size your inverter and any battery accordingly, rather than assuming every property qualifies for the same system size. If a quote doesn’t mention a distributor network check at all, that’s a gap worth asking about.

What a system actually needs to include

For a Western Sydney home, the practical checklist looks like this:

  • Panels sized to your actual roof and shading, not just your bill — a 6.6 kW system on a shaded roof won’t perform like one on a clear north-facing roof.
  • An inverter rated for sustained summer heat — inverters derate (produce less) in extreme heat, and Western Sydney sees more 35°C+ days than coastal Sydney.
  • A battery (if you’re adding one) sized to your evening usage pattern, not an arbitrary round number — this is where a lot of oversized, overpriced battery quotes come from.
  • Paperwork that separates the hardware cost from any rebate/STC discount, so you can see what you’re actually paying versus what the scheme is contributing.

Questions worth asking before you sign

  • Can you show me a shading analysis for my specific roof, not a generic estimate?
  • What’s my Endeavour Energy export limit, and does the proposed system fit within it?
  • Is the STC/rebate discount itemised separately on the quote?
  • What brands and models are you proposing, and why those for my roof and usage?
  • What happens if my strata (if applicable) doesn’t approve in time — is my deposit refundable?

Getting a quote that holds up

We install and quote systems — including Sigenergy SigenStor and GoodWe battery setups — for homes across Western Sydney, including Parramatta, Parramatta-adjacent suburbs, and the wider Endeavour Energy network area. Every quote we put together is based on your actual roof and usage, with hardware, installation and any rebate discount shown as separate line items, so you can see exactly where the number comes from before you decide.
